Brick Repair & Tuckpointing

We not only offer installation services for brick walls, mailboxes, chimneys, fireplaces, driveways and more, but our experts provide quality repairs. From initial installation to reliable repairs, we are committed to providing our customers with complete masonry service throughout Lubbock. Our professional masons can repair your brick wall by offering repointing and repair services:

“Repointing” is the process of removing old mortar from the joints and replacing it with fresh new mortar.

“Tuckpointing” is a process where the old mortar is removed from the joints and replaced with mortar that exactly matches the color of the bricks. Narrow rows of mortar ("fillets") in a contrasting color are then placed in the center of the new mortar joint. The terms "tuckpointing" and "repointing" are often used interchangeably; however, the final products are quite different aesthetically. Both processes involve removing old and damaged mortar and replacing it with fresh mortar; however, the repointing process does not include the additional step of placing contrast mortar lines at the joints. Some homeowners choose tuckpointing because it creates a sharp visual illusion because the mortar matches brick color. If you don't look closely at the wall, you won't notice where the mortar ends and the brick begins. The fillets trick the eye into thinking that the straight lines are joints. So the whole wall looks like it was built with masonry.

Brick Masonry

Several different types of masonry are used, including brick, stone, and/or concrete masonry. Each type has its own methods, appearance and construction style. Brick is a durable form of construction that is often used in the construction of walls and structures. When bricks are fixed with mortar correctly and neatly, it creates a strong mass that easily withstands loads. Brick has been used for centuries. Stones and/or bricks fixed with mortar are designed to carry significant weight and withstand different weather conditions. There are many different types of stone/brick and mortar available to contractors today. The selection and selection of the type of stone or brick and mortar should be based on the climate of your area and the structures of the area. The appearance of masonry can be of different sizes and colors and can be designed according to your wishes. Several different mortar styles are available for masonry installations. Some of these are necessary for your intended construction application, but others can be used to create a specific aesthetic. Common bonds include tight bonds, English bonds, cap bonds, Flemish bonds, Dutch bonds, stack bonds, American bonds, and reverse bonds. Masons often refer to these bonds and use the terms "stretcher" and "header". The header refers to the short end of the brick, while the stretcher is the longer side. Stretcher bonds are often used to build the base of walls and structures. Some styles have the header visible and some styles have the stretcher facing out. Some use a combination to make a beautiful brick pattern. The expert masons at Masonry Lubbock can help you choose what will look best for your project. The masonry tools, mortar and bricks used in these projects are available at almost any home improvement store. But you can't pick up the years of experience we can supply!
